Cave Exploration

Exploring caves has been a hobby for thousands of years, but has changed considerably in recent years. Caving today has become a hobby for many different reasons – conservation, gathering hard data about caves (also known as Speleology), learning about the formation of rocks, and formations and for most of the rest, the purpose of caving is just to have fun.

In Sri Lanka, there are many cave sites found in rocky areas most were found with prehistoric settlements of mankind called "Balangoda Man" (Homo sapiens balangodensis). Some of the sites are still untouched for scientific excavations and perhaps many to be discovered. Some caves are man made which belongs to the king-ruled era of Sri Lanka used for secret purposes. There are several animals which live in caves. Various species of Bats are the dominant and many Snakes, Geckos, Fish, Insects, and Amphibians among others.
